I. ABOUT BIT
Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), founded in 1940,
is one of the national key universities in China, a
research-oriented institution of science, engineering
and liberal arts with science and engineering as the
focus. BIT has been always attached great importance and
receiving preferential support from the central
government. It is one of the first Chinese universities
to run a graduate school, one of the first 15
universities to enter “Project 211” and the 10th
university to be approved into “Project 985”.
BIT is traditionally characterized by its excellence in
the fields of mechanical engineering, optical
engineering, information and communication engineering,
power machinery, control engineering, and applied
chemistry. BIT also pays great attention to the
development of other disciplines, such as management,
life science, humanities, and art design.
Operating across two main campuses (Zhongguancun and
Liangxiang) in urban and suburban Beijing, the
university has over 21,000 full time students as of the
year 2010, including nearly 13,600 undergraduate
students, over 5,100 Master degree candidates, and more
than 2,500 PhD candidates.
International students are highly valued for their
contribution to the campus’ diversity culture. Each
year, there are around 500 international students from
nearly 40 countries studying at BIT. Some of them are
undergraduate, graduate or doctorate students, some are
exchange students, and some are Chinese Language
students or Short-term Training program students. There
are scholarships available to excellent international
students at BIT, such as the Chinese Government
Scholarship for Graduate Student, Beijing Municipal
Government Scholarship and the university scholarship.
II.
Specialty
Three majors in English are available in 2011.
- Automation
- Electronic Science and Technology
- International Economics and Trade
III. Qualification
- High school graduation or equivalent to a
Chinese high school graduate;
- Applicants are expected to have good command of Mathematics
- Efficient English language skills (TOEFL 550 or IELTS 5.5)
- With age under 35.
Note: Native English speakers or graduates from high schools
where English is an official teaching language are exempt from TOEFL and IELTS scores.
IV. Application
Apply before Jun 10, 2011.

at http://isc.bit.edu.cn, or contact to International Student
Center for printed Application Forms.
Required Documents
The following materials are required to
submit:
- Application Form
- The Secondary/High School Diploma ( copy );
- Official copy of Secondary/High School Transcript;
- Copy of TOEFL or IELTS scores;
- Photocopy of Passport;
- Applicants with age under 18 are required to have a guardian
in China. Guardianship certificates are needed to submit.
Note: Documents in language other than Chinese or English need
to be translated in to Chinese or English.
V. Tuition & Fee
Application Fee (a one-time fee): ¥ 410
Tuition: ¥ 26000 per year
NOTE:
BIT requires all foreign students to be covered by the
Comprehensive Insurance Plan of Foreign Students sponsored by
Ping-An of China, which is 600RMB per year, including Accidental
Injury Medical Treatment Insurance and Hospitalization Medical
Insurance, not covering out-patient treatment expenses of common
disease.
For self-financing students who pay the tuition fee by
themselves, the insurance fee will be paid by the university.
Other foreign students are required to buy this Insurance via
BIT by themselves or by other supporting agencies.
VI. Admission Letter and Entry Visa
Admission letters and visa application forms
(JW202) are generally issued and mailed to students around Jun.
VII. Date of Registration
The new semester for fresh men starts on
September 1, 2011. International students please register to the
International Student Center on September 1-2.
VIII. Accommodation
Students are encouraged to reside on campus
at No.14 Student Apartment.
Rent: RMB45/bed/day.
Room type: Apartment style, Three or two double rooms share one
living room, shower room and toilet.
Room Condition: Air-conditioner, phone, bookshelf, desk,
wardrobe, internet access. There are public washing room and
public kitchen in this building.
