Faculty of Medicine, Sichuan University
Sichuan University is one of the major Universities that
offers a Medical Bachelor’s degree courses in English. (M.B.,B.S).
The faculty offers a 5-year and a 7-year programs. Bachelor
degree of medicine will be conferred to the graduates of 5-year
program and Master’s degree will be conferred to the graduates
of the 7-year program. The curriculum is known to be one of the
best in China.
Bachelor’ five year course includes three years fundamental
and clinical medical courses, one-year laboratory medicine
professional courses, three- month clinical practice, three-
month project study and half-year clinical laboratory practice.
Master’s degree courses are in three years, includes one and
half years degree courses and one and half years project
studying. The faculty is famous for a number of characteristics,
including clinical skills teaching and assessment, final medical
examination for graduates, and very high immediate employment
rate of the graduates.
In 2001, the faculty recruited its first class of foreign
medical students. About 30 foreign students each year enroll for
the M.B.,B.S Programme in English. The faculty offers a 3 year
Master degree program in English.
The University also offers a four week internship programme
for those holding a medical degree from other Medical Institutes
in China, however, due to the large popularity of the programme,
it is fully booked until 2011.

Liaoning Medical University, Jinzhou City
For students willing to study in a more weather challenging
environment, there is Liaoning Medical University (LMU). LMU was
founded in 1946. It is located in the beautiful seaside city of
Jinzhou, Liaoning Province in North East of China, which is
three hours east of Beijing by express train.
The university has set up 16 secondary level teaching units,
10 research centres, 3 affiliated comprehensive hospitals, 4
indirect comprehensive hospitals, 122 teaching and practice
basis. The number of students currently enrolled in LMU are
approximately 15,000 and the university has 3880 staff.
The campus covers an area of 975,000 square meters with a
floor-space of 279,000square meters. There are well-equipped
sport grounds, a gymnasium and a state of the art library. The
university accepts undergraduate, graduate, masters and
postgraduate students.
The College of International Education under LMU offers
Doctorate, Master level and Bachelor level Degrees in medicine
and currently overseas students from Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia,
India, Nepal and Pakistan are studying medicine at LMU.

Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing
The Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing has been designed to help
graduates, nurses and/or health industry professionals in
acquiring the necessary skills to expand their career prospects
within the health industry.
This is a 15 month programme including a salaried 6 month
work placement in the health & social care industry. The Work
Placement Team will guide students in finding these positions.
The placements may be situated anywhere in the UK. Students can
expect a gross salary minimum £230 for 40 hours of work per
week.

After completion of the course, students will have relevant
international exposure and gained valuable work experience plus
essential theoretical knowledge in managerial and organisational

Methods of Assessment
For each module, assessments will be a mixture of
assignments, case studies and group projects. NB Industrial
placements will also be monitored by the student’s assigned
College tutor. Entry Requirements
A diploma/degree in Nursing, Health or Social care studies
from a recognised institution or university. Students over 21
years old will also be considered on the basis of previous work
experience.
For students whose first language is not English an IELTS
band 6.0 or above is required. Students will be required to take
a short language test during their induction week.
Application Procedure
All prospective students should apply directly to the
International Centre and ensure the personal statement on the
application form is filled in, with the details of any relevant
work experience. This is so that personal circumstances and
previous experience can be considered in your application.
Visa Information
To obtain a student visa to study in the UK a student must
hold an offer letter for a full-time study programme. A minimum
of 15 hours of classroom/ laboratory hours per week is
considered as full-time study in the UK supported by tutorials,
self-directed study and coursework.
International students holding a UK student visa may legally
take part time work up to 20 hours per week during term study
weeks. During vacations there is no limit to the number of hours
per week a student may take paid employment.

15 months, which includes a 6 month salaried work placement.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (limited enrollment)
This is a four-year degree program (eight academic semesters
plus practicum placements).
The curriculum is based on health promotion and the ethic of
caring. Students will develop a sensitivity to peoples'
experiences with health and healing, and work as partners with
clients and other health care providers. Through their
understanding and participation in the changing health care
system, graduates will be active participants in creating health
for all.
The program consist of courses in nursing, humanities, and
sciences as they are applied to the nursing care of individuals
and their families. Studies will provide students with technical
knowledge, human understanding, critical thinking, and research
skills to provide responsible, competent, and critical
client-centered care.
The program offers the students the opportunity to work in a
variety of health care settings. In addition to acute-care
hospital experience, students will work in extended and
intermediate care, public health, and community health agencies.
Throughout the four years, students will have approximately
2,000 hours of nursing practice experience.
Respiratory Therapy Diploma
TRU is the only educational institution in British Columbia
to offer a program in Respiratory Therapy. The program is
accredited by the Conjoint Committee of the Canadian Society of
Respiratory Therapists and the Canadian Medical Association. The
program consists of two eight-month sessions of instruction at
TRU followed by 47 weeks of clinical internship at accredited
hospitals. Following successful completion of the program the
graduate is awarded a College Diploma and is eligible to sit the
National Board Examinations, for the professional qualification
of R.R.T. (Registered Respiratory Therapist).
During the first two years of the program, students spend
some time at the Kamloops Royal Inland Hospital observing
clinical procedures. The clinical year begins in early June
following the second College session and students spend time at
various hospitals gaining exposure to all aspects of the duties
of a Respiratory Therapist. Clinical year students will rotate
between hospitals in the Interior, Lower Mainland and Vancouver
Island. Applicants must be prepared to relocate as required.
Specific rotations cannot be guaranteed.
Mental Health Specialty Program
Thompson Rivers University's Mental Health Specialty Program
for Health Professionals is designed to prepare nurses, social
workers, and other health care professionals for work in the new
tertiary care psychiatric facility in Kamloops as well as
related community mental health settings. Those who complete
this post-basic specialty program will earn a Mental Health
Specialty Program Certificate and may earn up to 15 credits
toward a baccalaureate degree in nursing.
Admission
Courses are open to registered nurses, social workers and
other health professionals. Selected students who are enrolled
in third and fourth year of BSN program may also be admitted.
You will be required to submit the following:
Completed application with application fee if new admission
to TRU.
Proof of credential and/or membership in a health profession.
(Registered Nurses must provide proof of current membership in
CRNBC or equivalent provincial organization. Bachelor of Social
Work graduates must provide photocopy of degree. All others must
provide copy of transcript(s) and/or photocopy of degree.)
