A brief introduction of Zhejiang University
of Science and Technology(ZUST)
ZUST is a public university under the guidance of the
Zhejiang Provincial Government and is jointly developed by the
Chinese Government and the German Government through national
projects. ZUST has been nominated as a pilot institution of
Chinese-German cooperation in the area of application-orientated
talent cultivation by the Chinese Ministry of Education. The
development and construction of ZUST is closely associated with
its international cooperation. The University started its
cooperation with Germany since its establishment, and now it has
become an important platform for education and technology
cooperation between Zhejiang Province and Germany.
Up until today, ZUST has established many successful
international partnerships with more than 30 universities in
countries such as Germany, the USA, the U.K., Romania,
Australia, France, Japan, and Korea. Many honored guests and
professors have visited ZUST and worked here, including the
former German President Roman Herzog. At present, students from
more than 20 countries are studying in our school.
Teachers with senior ranks of professor or above account for
30% of the total teaching staff. In order to bring the teachers’
initiative to do research into full play, so as to make a larger
contribution to local economic growth, the university
established comprehensive scientific and technological
cooperative relationships with the Xihu district and Tonglu
county of Hangzhou City, Jindong district and Yongkang City of
Jinhua prefecture, Tiantai county and Tongxiang city, etc. In
cooperating with local enterprises, relevant schools and
institutes under the University set up some specialized centers
such as the Renewable Energy R&D Center, the Paper Making and
Color Printing R&D Center, the Electronic Technology R&D
Center,AppliedMaterial Science R&D Center, the Intelligent
Appliances R&D Center and the Institute of Applied
Bio-technology Products etc.

1. Why ZUST?
- ZUST is a public university directly under the guidance
of Zhejiang Provincial Government and funded by Chinese
Government and German Government through national projects.
- ZUST is located in the most famous and safest tourist
city-Hangzhou. As the economic, political, scientific,
technological and cultural center of Zhejiang Province,
Hangzhou has also been awarded the titles “the most suitable
for city life in China” and “the city with the most business
potential in China”.
- ZUST has an attractive campus and first rate facilities,
creating a hospitable and comfortable study environment.
- All international students are eligible to apply for
‘Confucius Institute Scholarship’, ‘Zhejiang Provincial
Government Scholarship for International Students’ and ‘ZUST
Scholarship for International Students’.
- ZUST offers international English-taught bachelor
programs such as national-level key major --- Civil
Engineering and provincial-level key major--- International
Economics and Trade. Students can be enrolled without any
Chinese language entry requirements.
- ZUST offers distinctive bachelor program---Business
Chinese with no Chinese language entry requirements for
international students. Students who have studied Chinese
can join at any time.
- Generally, Chinese language students will be arranged in
small classes with no more than 15 students. Even if there
is only one person of the same level in one class, the
school will arrange classes as usual without extra fees.
- Students who apply for bachelor-degree program Computer
Science and Technology (Information Technology Management),
which is the cooperation project between ZUST and the
University of Southern Queensland from Australia, are
eligible to acquire double degrees conferred by ZUST and the
University of Southern Queensland.
- Graduates majored in International Economics and Trade
can receive a master's degree in one year by applying
for MBA courses of University of Bridgeport from the United
States.
- ZUST arranges pick-up at Hangzhou Xiaoshan International
Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport for free.
- The staff members of ZUST International Education
School, good at English, German, Korean or Russian
languages, are always ready to help international students.
- International Culture Exchange Association, a student
association, often organizes exciting sports events and
recreational activities adding to the wonderful experience
of international students’ life at ZUST.

2. Fees
- Application Fee: RMB240 Yuan or USD40.
- Books and Learning Materials: RMB 300 Yuan for a
semester.
- Tuition Fees:
Study Tour Program: Fees depend on the tailored programs.
Chinese Language Program: RMB 6500 Yuan/semester or 13,000
Yuan/year.
General Advanced Study Program: RMB 7500 Yuan/semester or
15,000 Yuan/year.
Bachelor's Degree Program: RMB 15,000 Yuan/year for the
majors of science, engineering, literature, management. RMB
18,000 Yuan/year for the major of Arts Design.
Double-degree Program (Computer Science and Technology): RMB
20,000 Yuan/year.
- Accommodation:
Single Room: RMB 1200 Yuan/month (1-student shared),
including water bill and internet bill. Electricity bills
should be paid by students themselves.
Double-bed Room: RMB 600 Yuan/month/person (2-student
shared), including water bill and internet bill. Electricity
bills should be paid by students themselves.
Room Deposit: RMB 1000 Yuan. It will be returned if all
equipments are in good condition when students check out.
There are bed, wardrobe, desk, chair, bookshelf, TV,
refrigerator, air conditioner, heater, shower in the room,
public washing machine and public kitchen.

- Insurance Fee: RMB 300 Yuan for half an academic year or
600 Yuan for a year; all students are required to purchase
insurance.
- Bedding: RMB 200 Yuan/person.
- Meals: Approximately RMB 500 Yuan/month or students can
cook by themselves in the public kitchen.
3. Campus Facilities
On campus there is a student center, school clinic, grocery
stores, laundry and other service centers, canteens, teahouse,
restaurants, and sporting facilities (e.g. basketball,
volleyball, and tennis courts, as well as a football field).
